Size a room for chandelier lights and chandeliers
The size of the room can vastly determine how your
chandelier lights will look when they are installed
so it is always best to buy chandeliers that suits
the room's size and style. A chandelier that is
correctly sized will give sufficient light to the
room and not look too big and elaborate or undersized
and too small for the room.
Numbers are very important
when determining the size. If the room is 10' x 10' then choose a chandelier that
has a 17" to 20" diameter size. A room with a size of 14' by 14' will
look right with a chandelier diameter of 23" to 36". For a room of 12'
by 12' then a chandelier with a 26" to 27" diameter should be perfect.
When chandelier lights are hung over a table there
should be a clearance of 30" between the light
and the surface of the table. This will provide
sufficient light coverage without bumping heads.
The combined wattage of the bulbs in a room should
be between 200 and 400 for adequate light coverage.
For a room with low ceilings a small chandelier
is recommended with a shorted distance between the
ceiling and the light. When a room is full of furniture,
a smaller chandelier is advised, as a larger chandelier
will look oversized in this room.
The following are
a few more issues that should be considered:
-Tall chandelier lights work best with high ceilings
and short chandeliers work best with low ceilings.
-Each
light fitting should hold a 60-watt light bulb but 40 are always just as efficient.
-Large
rooms should work with 8 or more lights and smaller rooms work well with 6 to
8 lights.
-A dimmer will come in handy with chandeliers to get the perfect
light coverage.
